5 top tips for being happy & healthy in 2018!

1. Drink More

One of the easiest things you can start a new healthier you, is drinking more water! Try and always keep a bottle of water to hand, on the yard, at home or at the gym. If its something that you want to do but keep forgetting then why not set a reminder on your phone every 30mins! Or there are even apps you can download that will remind you to drink and will also keep track on what you have had! Staying hydrated can provide heaps of benefits inducing: increasing energy, reducing fatigue, promoting weight loss, flushing out toxins and many more! Studies have also shown that drinking a cup of water just before every meal reduces calories consumption by 75 to 90 calorie. Get drinking!

2. Sleep More

So we all know that when we get a good night sleep we feel so much better! But not only does it put us in a much better mood but adequate sleep is a key part of a healthy lifestyle! It can have huge benefits on your heart, weight, mind and more. Sleep is when your body works on repairing itself. It repairs heart and bloody vessels and also muscle tissue. So if you’ve had a hard workout or a long day riding a good night sleep can be vital. Sleep also helps keep your cortisol levels low. This is the stress hormone that is frequently associated with fat gain. So keeping these low is beneficial for you to keep your mind clear as well as aiding weight loss! Bonus! Research shows that consistently getting about eight hours of sleep per night is best. So turn those phones off  and get an early night!

3. Eating Healthy

Good nutrition is a very important part of creating a healthy lifestyle. If your filling your body with good healthy food it well help your body to become strong and so helping you to cope with stress and also fight illness. Healthy foods help to keep your cholesterol and blood pressure within a safe range. This keeps your blood flowing smoothly, decreasing your risk of cardiovascular diseases. Filling your body with the right food also ensures you have enough energy for the day, and with all that mucking, riding and fitness work this is very important!

4. Workout 

Regular exercise can have huge benefits to staying healthy. It helps us to control weight and also helps fight of health conditions and diseases. Regular exercise helps prevent or manage a wide range of health problems including stroke, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, depression, a number of types of cancer and arthritis. And lastly is also can be a great mood booster, doing exercise releases hormones which make us feel good, also once you start seeing results it can also be great for boosting self esteem!

Regular trips to the gym are great, but there are plenty of other things you can do too. Taking the dog for a walk, running around the horses field, finding a home workout or even using apps (like our new EquiFit App) can be a great way to keep on track and easily including exercise into your life.

5. Be Happy 

All of the above can help with making us feel a little happier and boosting our mood. But why not spend a little extra time on yourself this year!  Mindfulness can help us to increase our ability to regulate emotions, decrease stress, anxiety and depression. It can also help us to focus our attention, as well as to observe our thoughts and feelings without judgement. The easiest way to achieve mindfulness is to focus on breathing awareness for ten minutes at least once a day. Each time you notice that your mind is no longer on your breath, see where it is, then let it go and gently return to the breath. This can be hard to do by yourself but there are some great videos and apps that you can use to help you focus your mind. Something I like to do each day is just stop and appreciate something, whether its a view, a moment or even just your horse in the field! Just start to live in the moment, appreciate more and be happy!
